Here’s a reworking of a post I did last year at this time regarding a Spiritual Lent. Enjoy!
With Ash Wednesday comes the beginning of Lent season which leads up to Easter, a time for rebirth and renewal. I was introduced to the idea of Lent as a young adult. At the time, I worked with a lot of Catholics, so Lent season meant ordering meatless pizzas on Friday nights. It also meant my Catholic friends gave up things like chocolate and soda for 40 days. I didn’t really understand all of this, but it was important to them, so I supported them. As an adult in my thirties, I found myself attending a new-thought church. Once again, the topic of Lent came up. But instead of eating veggie pizza and giving up chocolate, I found there was more to this idea of Lent. I was introduced to the idea of a Spiritual Lent. The goal of a Spiritual Lent is to give up limiting beliefs which no longer serve us in our growth.
Here are a few questions to answer when contemplating a Spiritual Lent:
• What keeps you limited, especially limiting beliefs?
• How has this limiting belief affected your life?
• Are you willing to step outside of this self-perceived limitation into what is possible?
• How would releasing limitations free you to become who you are intended to be, what you desire for your life?
• What do you want your life to be like in 40 days?
• What steps can you take, each day, which moves you closer to what you want?
After answering these questions, follow up with a goal of what you would like to accomplish during the next 40 days, then TAKE ACTION, celebrating each step along the way! Commit to moving from limitations into possibilities. The Lent season leads up to a time of renewal and rebirth. Renew your commitment to yourself and the life you want to live! Then, LIVE IT!
